Chocolate-Dipped Apple Pretzel Bites (For Back to School)

I’m sharing another adorable creation from my daughter’s “Cute Finger Foods Series” that’s been taking over our kitchen this season.

These apple pretzel bites were actually her idea!

She came running in from playing outside last week saying she wanted to make “tiny apples for teachers” and honestly, I couldn’t say no to that sweet face.

My daughter has been on this mission to create the most “aesthetically pleasing” foods possible.

She’s my little foodie in training and gets so excited when her creations turn out Instagram-worthy.

These apple pretzel bites definitely fit the bill – they’re adorable, delicious, and perfect for those first-week-of-school celebrations or lunchbox surprises.

And if you need more ideas, check out these pencil wafers that my daughter made.

What You Need to Make These Apple Pretzels

  • Mini twist pretzels – These are our crunchy, salty base. You don’t need a lot but a bag should do.
  • Red chocolate candy melts – These give us that beautiful red color and create the base that holds everything together. The candy melts harden so nicely compared to regular chocolate and don’t need tempering.
  • Green M&Ms – These that make the pretzels look like little apples!
  • Coconut oil – This is just in case the chocolate gets too thick for dipping. A little bit makes the chocolate smooth and glossy.

These ingredients come together to make the cutest little apple treats that are perfect for back to school class parties, neighbor gifts, or midnight snacking.

The best part?

They take like 10 minutes to make!

How to Make Cute Apple Pretzel Bites

Step 1: Melt the Chocolate

Grab a medium microwave-safe bowl and pour in your red chocolate wafers.

Pop it in the microwave for 15 second bursts, stirring between each one.

Keep going until you have perfectly smooth, glossy chocolate that looks like red satin.

If it seems too thick, that’s where a tiny bit of coconut oil works its magic!

Step 2: Coat Pretzels

Take each mini pretzel and give it a complete chocolate bath.

Make sure the entire pretzel gets covered – my oldest is a perfectionist about this and checks each one for “bald spots.”

The chocolate should hug every twist and turn of the pretzel to create our apple shape.

Step 3: Place on Parchment Paper

Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper (not wax paper – as these will stick).

Carefully place each chocolate-covered pretzel down with enough space between them so they don’t become one giant pretzel blob.

Step 4: Add the Green “Leaf” Topper

Work quickly before the chocolate starts to set!

Take a green M&M and press it gently into the top of each pretzel to create the apple leaf.

This is my daughter’s favorite job – she gets so focused her little tongue sticks out the side of her mouth!

Position it so it looks like a real apple stem and leaf.

Step 5: Let Them Cool

Pop the whole tray into the refrigerator to let the chocolate harden completely.

This usually takes about 20-30 minutes, which is just enough time to clean up our chocolate disaster zone.

Once they’re completely set, these adorable little apple treats are ready for lunchboxes, teacher gifts, or after-school snacks!

They stay fresh in an airtight container for about a week, but honestly, they’ve never lasted more than two days in our house.

And that’s it! I hope you make them!
