Here’s another adorable creation from my daughter’s “Cute Finger Foods Series” that’s perfect for those first days back in the classroom!

These Ruler Rice Krispie Treats were actually inspired by my duaghter’s one’s obsession with her teacher’s supply closet last year.
She came home one day absolutely fascinated by all the “cool measuring tools” and immediately wanted to recreate them in food form.
Rice Krispy treats are already a lunchbox favorite at our house (and let’s be honest, one of the easiest treats for busy moms to whip up between soccer practice and homework help).
But shaping them into rulers and adding those little measurement marks with chocolate? Instant upgrade that makes them feel special for the new school year!
So while I’m definitely not ready to trade pool days for homework battles, at least we can make the transition a little sweeter with these fun ruler treats.
They’re the next hit in our growing collection of food that’s “too cute to eat” (but somehow always gets eaten anyway)!
Ingredients to make Ruler Rice Krispies

While you can make the Rice Krispy treats from scratch with cereal and marshmallows, it’s easier, and less messy, to by the pre-made Rice Krispie treats.
And all you need to make these adorable and cute rulers from Rice Krispies are:
- 20 premade Rice Krispy Treats
- ¼ cup black candy melts
You’ll also need a bowl to melt the candy, a piping bag or plastic bag and some parchment paper to work with the the Rice Krispy treats.
How to Make Ruler Rice Krispy Treats

1. Unwrap Treats
Unwrap each Rice Krispy treat and place them on a piece of parchment paper.
2. Flatten Treats
Use your hands to gently flatten and elongate each treat into a proper ruler shape. I find slightly dampening your fingers prevents too much stickiness.
For those perfect ruler edges (because my daughter one is all about the details), use a bench scraper or even the straight edge of a butter knife to create clean, straight sides.
3. Melt Candy and Place in Bag
Time to melt those black candy melts!
Put them in a microwave-safe bowl and heat in 30-second intervals, stirring between each until perfectly smooth.
Once melted, transfer the candy to a piping bag.
If you don’t have piping bags (I’m constantly running out), a ziplock bag works perfectly fine.
Just snip a tiny hole in the corner – emphasis on TINY!
4. Decorate!
Pipe those ruler tick marks along one long edge of each Rice Krispie treat.
We make some longer (for the inch marks) and some shorter (for the half-inch and quarter-inch marks) just like a real ruler.
My daughter counted them out loud as we went “one inch, half inch, quarter inch…” – sneaky math practice disguised as fun!
5. Let It Sit
Let everything set for about 10 minutes until the candy melts harden completely.
There you go! A cute back to school lunch snack for your kids!
